Barker Storey Matthews help bring new hotel to Peterborough

PAI member Barker Storey Matthews has played an active part in bringing a new 126-bed hotel to Peterborough city centre.

The agent, whose regional headquarters is on Thorpe Road in the city, has confirmed its involvement in the development of the site following Peterborough City Council’s granting of planning permission for a Premier Inn on Bridge Street – the site of the former police station whose closure was announced in 2015.

Barker Storey Matthews was appointed last year (2017) as the property agent instructed for the sale of the Bridge Street site by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Cambridgeshire as part of OPCC’s planned programme of property disposals in the county.

Subsequently, Barker Storey Matthews’ planners were engaged to produce a development brief identifying considerations for the redevelopment of the site by any potential new owners and then appointed as the planning consultant on the redevelopment of the site on behalf of its new owner and client developer, MPMerchant.

Following the recent approval of the plans for the 126-bed Premier Inn on the Bridge Street site, John Dadge, Director, Barker Storey Matthews, said, “The development of Fletton Quays is rippling out to give a fresh focus on the this part of the city in re-presenting it to high profile commercial operators such as Premier Inn.  

“The volume of interest generated in the Bridge Street instruction - on which we received more than twelve offers at the best and final offers stage - is a testament to this.

“Our extensive knowledge of the site meant we were well aware of the planning sensitivities connected with any redevelopment of such a landmark site.

“As well as satisfying both sets of clients’ briefs for the site, we are confident that the city centre Premier Inn will bring many benefits to Peterborough, and in short order too with the hotel scheduled for completion by the end of next year (2019).”
